Strause's book refutes the gossip about her birth. She opened up about her mother's automobile troubles and then walked into an auto-gas station. She went into pre-labor while waiting in the station. The attendant assisted her in getting to a hospital. Strause was born in a hospital. Her mother who was half Japanese/half Spanish and split before she knew she was pregnant. Jeff is her stepfather. Chrishell Strause was forced to be in a tent for a period of time during middle school. Strause revealed her experiences of hiding her life from her peers by recounting how she washed her hair in rivers and applying for food stamps.
