Kyra Minturn Sedgwick (born August 19, 1965) is an American actress, producer and director. Her most well-known role is her character as Deputy Chief Brenda Leigh Johnson in the TNT crime drama The Closer. For her portrayal of Johnson, Sedgwick won a Golden Globe Award in 2007 as well as an Emmy Award in 2010. The show ended on August 13th, 2012 following the conclusion of its seventh season. Sedgwick's recurring role of Madeline Wuntch in the sitcom Brooklyn Nine-Nine is also noteworthy. Sedgwick won a Golden Globe Award for her performance in Something to Talk About (1995). Sedgwick's roles in other films include Oliver Stone's Born to the Fourth of July (1989) as well as Cameron Crowe's solos (1992) as well as Heart and Souls(93), Phenomenon (1996) and What's Cooking (2000) and Secondhand Lions (2003). The Game Plan (2007) and The Possession (2012). Sedgwick was born in New York City, the daughter of Patricia (nee Rosenwald), who was a speech instructor and educational/family therapist and Henry Dwight Sedgwick V, an investor in venture capital. Her mother was Jewish. Her father was an Episcopalian, with English heritage. Sedgwick has declared publicly her Jewish heritage and has said she takes part in Passover seders.
