Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris is an American politician. Born on the 20th of October 1964, she was the 49th Vice President of the United States. She is the first vice president to be female and the most powerful female politician in U.S. history, as also the first African American and first Asian American vice president. As a member of the Democratic Party, she has been attorney general for California between 2011 and 2017, and as a United States senator representing California until 2021. Harris was born in Oakland and graduated from Howard University, University of California, Hastings College of the Law. Harris started her career in the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Harris was later hired by the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003, she was elected San Francisco District Attorney. Harris was elected Attorney-General of California in 2010 and reelected in 2014. Harris served as the junior United States Senator from California between 2017 and 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Santiago in the 2016 Senate election and became the second African American woman to serve in the Congress, and the first South Asian American American to serve in the United States Senate. As senator, she was a vocal advocate for reforms to healthcare as well as federal de-scheduling cannabis, a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants and the DREAM Act, a ban on assault weapons, as well as progressive tax reform. She is best known for her direct questions to Trump administration officials in Senate hearings.
